Postmarked First Day of Issue Melbourne VIC - 11 May 2013. The Perth Mint and the Royal Australian Mint are pleased to present two stunning uncirculated commemorative coins accompanied by two official Australia Post stamps to celebrate 100 years since the first Australian banknote was produced. The first banknote used by the Commonwealth of Australia held the value of ten shillings and featured the serial number M000001. An official numbering ceremony of the banknote took place on 1 May 1913 at the Government Printing Works located in the Kings Warehouse in Melbourne.

Perth Mint and Royal Australian Mint Coins. The Perth Mint's coin reverse depicts elements from the original banknote and the inscriptions 100TH ANNIVERSARY, FIRST BANKNOTE OF AUSTRALIA and the dates 1913 - 2013. Similarly, the reverse of the Royal Australian Mint's coin portrays elements from the original banknote accompanied by the title CENTENARY OF AUSTRALIAN BANKNOTES. Issued as legal tender under the Australian.
