NOT A COPY OR REPRINT. On October 1, 1961, New York Yankees right fielder Roger Maris made history when he hit his 61.

Home run of the season on the final day of the season in Yankee Stadium against Tracy Stallard of the Boston Red Sox. Hit in his second at bat in the 4.

Inning, it was the only run of the game. It was the rousing end to a rousing season, wrote The New York Times Joseph Durso, and it ended with the Yankees winning the pennant race before roaring sellout crowds and swarms of writers and broadcasters drawn by Mantle and Maris, the power hitters on yet another great Yankee team. Mantle, who was injured in September, still managed to hit 54 home runs, so the twins combined for an awesome total of 115.

But Maris, an accomplished outfielder with a powerful arm and bat, was besieged as he pursued the memory and the record of Ruth. It was affixed in the lower right to a printed full-length portrait of Babe Ruth and was postmarked Chicago, Illinois, July 6, 1983, FIRST DAY OF ISSUE. In Chicago on July 6, 1933, exactly 50 years earlier, Babe Ruth had hit the first home run in the first All-Star Game. 8.5 inch by 10.75 inch.

Babe Ruth Printed Portrait Signed. To the left of the first day postmark. Roger Maris died on December 14, 1985, just 2½ years after the Babe Ruth stamp was issued. Maris died at 51; Ruth died at 53. The portrait is printed on watermarked laid paper.

It has been waterstained resulting in creases not materially affecting its appearance. Neither the Roger Maris autograph nor the 20¢ Babe Ruth stamp and postmark are affected.

In this May 13, 2016, Reuters Article. I was the handwriting expert contacted in the "1775 Almanac" episode on the PBS series History.

Detectives which was televised on Tuesday, September 6, 2011. I was asked to identify the writer of the notes handwritten on the pages of the almanac, notes that recorded, among other events, the Battles of Lexington, Concord, and Bunker Hill. The unknown owner of the almanac had used it as a diary. Filmed in the Library of Congress, I compared the writing in the almanac with a signed letter handwritten in 1779.
